Arrival Story: I’ve wanted a furry companion since I was a kid and never got the opportunity. Every day, I would stop all the dog owners on the street so that I could wooo, awwww, pet and get my daily dog fix. I finally thought enough was enough and knew it was time to adopt one of my own. I’ve seen a few Shibas in the neighborhood plus there was that whole Shiba puppy cam and I instantly fell in love. Today, I am a lucky parent of two amazing Shiba Inus. Arrival Story: Topo survived atrocities in Taiwan before he was rescued. I love the fox-like breed but love Topo, in particular, for his spirit, his bravery, his resilience. He is white, out of breed standard, and his tail was mutilated in Taiwan. When he runs in the tall grass, he looks like a big bunny.

Arrival Story: This was an online love connection for Steven (my husband) and Bento, who was previously named Peanut at his rescue. We met Bento for the first time with two hosts from PoundPuppyRescue.com in which they tested how we connected. It was between us and one other couple on who would win Bento’s heart. It was love at first sight for us, and maybe for Bento, love at first smell! We went to a burger joint right before meeting him and my husband pretty much slathered himself in bacon just so our competitors would be left in the dust once Bento met us!

Dog’s Siblings: Mao, big sister [domestic long hair], bullies him around the house. Then there’s Ko-chan, his brother living in Vallejo with his Grandma (Breeder) and Suki, his sister living in Davis with his father, Ryoma. Ichigo and Ko-chan often have play dates and have a huge blast wrestling and screaming like wild dogs.
Favorite Food: Salumi. Or hotdogs. Both make him bolt towards you faster than a speeding bullet.
Favorite Toy: His slightly deflated soccer ball. He will stop chasing cats to go after that thing.
Favorite Place to go: Point Isabel Dog Park. It’s like doggie heaven.

Arrival Story: We fell in love with the typical stubborn Shiba Inu personality long ago, and after months of painstaking research, we finally found a great breeder we were comfortable with in Vallejo.
After a few more long months of waiting, Ichigo finally arrived in our home we haven’t stopped spoiling him since.
Ichigo can be shy around new people like many shibas, but that just makes it all the more rewarding the first time he greets you with his signature shiba smile.

Bio: When I moved to SF about 10 yrs ago, I gave away my 2 yr old Pug and was heartbroken but felt it was the best thing for him that I found him a new long term home. At the time, I was a bit of a Nomad. Since then I promised I would not get dog unless I could keep that dog until the day they naturally decided to go to doggie heaven.
Two years ago, I finally decided it was time and I was ready for a dog and found Machi through a breeder who was considering retiring her. She was 8 yrs old at the time and the breeder wanted to continue to breed her but I was able to convince her to let me adopt her. She was spayed and is not going to give birth ever again. Two years later, she is spoiled rotten and lives a very comfortable life with us in Sunnyvale, CA.
Shiba’s are beautiful dogs, they are smart, quiet, clean, and calm. They can be independent in nature, protective but not overbearing. I was inspired after watching a couple of movies starring a brilliant Shiba!

Bio: We were worried about committing to having a dog. We both work long hours and weren’t sure we can handle it. Shibas are known for being difficult to train and we wanted to do things right. We waited four years and then finally, finally made the decision. We went with a breeder since this was our first dog and we weren’t sure we could do the right thing for a rescue.
Zuko has been a huge joy in our life. He can be willful, but has all the best traits of a Shiba and none of the worst. He is a huge part of our lives, goes everywhere with us (even work) and makes us smile every day.
