Bio:
First off she chose me. I’ve never considered getting a Pug. When I first saw Callie she was in stray dog run #14 at the Marin Humane Society, where I work. She was a bit shut down which is what led me to her in the first place. She and I quickly became friends as I’d stop by on all my breaks and any chance I had. My wife and I had been planning our vacation for a year so we went. I thought about that adorable little Pug a lot while I was gone. When I returned I finally found her out in our dog Isolation area. She was thought to be sick when what she really needed was her soft pallet trimmed. It was decided, due to the cost of that surgery that she would go to rescue. (Pug PROS) only they couldn’t take her for a week. So we “fostered” her. lol We fell in love, and she with us. When PROS came to get her, I cried and cried. :( But we knew they could give her the operation she needed to breath better, so I let her go. With in 2 days my wife and kids and I woke up and realized a huge part of our family was missing, Callie! So I got a hold of PROS and they let me know that there was a waiting list for 2 year olds, but they finally got how important this girl who had been picked up as a stray in San Anselmo on the main street only a couple weeks earlier belonged with us. I am so grateful, She is my girl!..

Arrival Story:
We had a pug (Captain Jack) for about a year when he tragically passed away during a routine operation at the vet. He was very dearly loved in our house and I was absolutely crushed at the loss (I was a freshman in high school at the time). About a year after his death, we got Jackie- pugs have always been my favorite breed of dog (I think they are by far the cutest and sweetest animals) and there was no question of whether our next dog would be a pug. It may seem a bit odd, but I named her Jackie as a nod to Jack, not to replace him but in his honor (you have to remember I was 15 at the time). She is quite a different pup than Jack was but she is absolutely darling and we love her very much!

Abby the Standard Schnauzer/Pug Mix

Where do you live?: St. Louis, MO
Your dog is: rescue
Dog’s sex: girl
Dog’s name: Abby
Dog’s Breed: Pug & Standard Schnauzer Mix
Dog’s Birthday: Not sure exactly- she is about 6-7 years old now
Dog’s Siblings: Jackie (her sister pug- not ‘real’ relation, but they’ve grown up together)
Favorite Food: Everything and anything
Favorite Toy: This monkey puppet that wears the “angel” shirt of our first pug and her first friend (Captain Jack).
Favorite Place to go: She loves running off into the woods by our house- scares me a bit at night, actually!
Best Trick: It’s not really a trick, but she will paw at you in the cutest way when she is cuddling with you. It’s almost like her version of a handshake (but she won’t do it upon command- only when she feels like it).
Best Friend: Jackie Pug
Wildcard: We once met her brother- he lived at one of my friend’s neighbor’s homes- and discovered his name was “Killer” due to his ‘killer’ nature. This was no surprise at the time, as when Abby was younger she was quite a destructive pup. Fortunately for us, she’s calmed down a lot and is now one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met!
Pet Peeve: When Jackie gets all the attention.

Arrival Story:
We adopted her from the Edwardsville PetsMart (the Metro East Humane Society would have rescued dogs there for adoption on Saturdays). When she was a puppy, she looked just like a purebred pug (her mom was a purebred pug, and they didn’t know what the father looked like as they had found the mom on the side of the road). I was probably about 13 at the time and had always wanted a pug, so I convinced my parents to get her. Lo and behold, about 4 months later she had grown exponentially and looked VERY different. She may be one of the oddest looking mixes you’ll see- pug skin with schnauzer hair, a curly pug tail but without the shmushed face, whiskers and grey hair. I’ve been told she is the ugliest dog, but I think she is one of ! the cutest I’ve ever seen! I could be biased… but I would rather believe everyone else just has bad taste.

I had been wanting a puggle for a while but I didn’t want to buy a dog when I could save one from a shelter. I saw Tiny on PetFinder.com and he had just been rescued by a private shelter from the pound because he was about to be put down. I got him the same day I saw him and he is the smartest, most loving dog I have ever seen.
