Today was my birthday, I'm freaking 31 years old. It's kind of weird to be in my 30s now, I never thought of this age as being "cool"... just "old". Hahaha. It was a pretty uneventful day, except for the 200 people who left me "happy birthday" posts on Facebook. Other than that I got 3 happy birthday phone calls... my mom, dad, and friend. Today I had 2 photoshoots and in between I worked like a maniac.... and took Harley to the dog park to run and meet new friends.
It's been a while since I wrote and well, things are going pretty good. Just 3 days ago I launched the Project DOG Kickstarter Campaign and it is going really well so far!! I set the minimum pledge goal to be $15,000, which is very conservative in comparison to the actual cost to print... I'm hoping I'm able to raise more than this amount in pledges! So far I have $4,100 in pledges, yay!
This project has been very stressful for me - besides managing the hundreds of emails I get everyday to scheduling the photoshoots, finding the dogs, shooting, downloading... I'm totally spent! Tomorrow I need to buy another new hardrive because my 1TB drive that I just bought a few weeks ago is almost full already, and I haven't even started editing yet!
I haven't written in a while, but since the first day of my self-employment liberation I have photographed more than 200 dogs. Probably closer to 300, I haven't counted... I should. My horrible and embarrassing raccoon face tan has almost faded away and I have lost about 10lbs which is great! Other than being physically and mentally exhausted, I am doing really well. I'm so happy that I am on my own now and I love Project DOG... everyday I am so excited to wake up and do it all over again. I sometimes feel like that annoying guy from the Bachelor who everyone hated because he was so happy all of the time LOL!!!
Can't wait to tell you about this... I should have been writing everyday, I'm kickin myself real bad for that now. REAL BAD.
This morning I had a photoshoot with Battu the Sloughi and then this afternoon with Paige the English Springer Spaniel. Battu is a sighthound, and Sloughi's are very rare African hunting dogs. It was neat to meet him, he's only one of about 3 who live in northern California. Paige was such a gorgeous and nice dog... she is mainly a show dog. I am learning so much about the world of show dogs it's like a whole other planet. Paige is co-owned by a few people but lives with her handler. I never heard of that before, nor could imagine co-owning an animal and not having it live with you. I feel bad for the handler who is emotionally bonded to this dog, and has trained her since puppyhood... but I guess that's the way of the show dog world. Apparently it isn't uncommon to co-own dogs, completely new to me!
Ugh, I need a freaking car. Tomorrow I have to wake up at 5:30am so I can get ready and leave to take the train at 6:30am just to pick up my Zipcar because there are none available in my neighborhood. That was my other challenge... not having a car. I've spent nearly all of my savings on Zipcar to get around to my photoshoots (about $80/day + tolls/parking), so now I'm really strapped for cash and keeping all of my paws, and my 3 cats and dog's paws crossed that this all works out! Sometimes I wish that more people understood the real size and level of this project... It's a really big deal for me that I'm doing this and that I've gotten this far and it's been quite challenging to keep myself motivated at times... especially after I've had difficult photoshoots, or people cancel/drop out/disappear. I know it will all be worth it in the end though, we're in the home stretch!
Ok well I have to go to bed and get some beauty rest, I haven't had a good night's sleep in 2 months (literally), and 5 hours of sleep is better than 4. Like Ani says, "I am
32 31 flavors and then some, takin my chances as they come..."
I will write again soon!
