It's been another week, and I'm happy as a clam working on Project DOG SF book!! I am physically exhausted and haven't had a day "off" since I quit my job and became liberated on June 3rd, but it's all good! 12-14 hour days everyday can really wear on you, I find myself "going to bed" when I realize I'm sitting at my computer all hunched over, bopping my head around to stay awake. Since July 3, I have managed to find, schedule and photograph about 90 dogs!! Yes, I'm a crazy person... gone completely mad, lost 5 lbs and have a wicked glasses tan line to prove it! ...this totally beats sitting behind a desk all day! I feel great!
So it's week 3 now and I have only 1.5 more weeks to shoot as many dogs as I can before the Blurb International Photography Book Now contest submission date (July 14th). This will be a mini, "preview" book to the "real" thing which is set for a drop date of late September/early October, just in time for holiday. I'll start the pre-order in a week or so, omgggg!
The book will be approximately 8x10 hardcover landscape with a dust jacket. I think that's big enough... not too big, not too small, and will keep the price affordable for everyone. One of the dog mom's I met with was happy to hear that I'm not charging people for inclusion in this book. Why would I? ...REALLY?! To me, this book is a labor of love and I would much rather have quality stories and happy people participate than only people who can "afford" to be in it. It's about the dogs, their stories and great photos. I want to feel really good about this book from beginning to end, I want to know that the people who are particpating are wholeheartedly into it and support my mission - and it's working. Project DOG is much more than just a dog photo book, it's a fun new way for everyone to get excited about their dog, the book is just the end product (and hopefully the start of something annual?!!). So yeah, I'm NOT charging people, that would be wrong!
This past week I gave my fans on Facebook a sneak peek to one of my favorite spreads so far, the Akitas! Here, check it out!
It's so freaking exciting to see this book come together, photo by photo, page by page. Really, I'M LIVING THE DREAM. I can't believe it, and I feel so humbled to have met such great people and dogs during this time!
Gotta run, I have 6 sessions today, woo hoo!!
